May Parkinson (b1884)
- My father's mother May was born 1 May 1884 and died 1970. Her early childhood was at Stansfield House farm at Nappa, Settle, Yorkshire. She told me how she walked about 2 miles (over 3Km) to the octagonal schoolhouse daily. She was a very hard working person, a keen gardener specialising in crysanthemums and an excellent seemstress. She lived at 76 Lomeshaye Road, Nelson - from at least end 1940's until her death. She was a cotton weaver working at Lomeshye Mill just 30m from her back door. I lived with my grandparents 1947 and enjoyed staying with them for extended periods.
- May's parents were John and Margaret Boothman (b1851)
- She had 4 siblings James (b1879), Elizabeth (Cissie)(b1881), Arthur John (B1882), Fred (b1887) and Lois (b1889). Lois died 1950 and Jil & I went to her funeral. She had many stuffed birds in glass domes. Her house in Sabden was dark.
- Census 1891: lived Stansfield House, Nappa, Hellifield. Her father was a farmer. There were 8 in the family.
- Census 1901: lived with parents at Whins Farm, Pendleton, Clitheroe. At 16 years old she was already a cotton weaver.
- By 1911 the Census show the family had moved to 12 Thorn St Sabden near Blackburn and May was a boarder at 16 Hereford St Nelson. She was employed as a cotton weaver
- She married Benjamin Hagan 28 October 1911 and they had 2 sons Victor (b1913) and Lloyd (b1915).
John (b1851)
- John's parents were James (b1829) and Elizabeth Hartley (b1830)
- He was born 15 February 1851 at Downham. He was only 1 month old at the time of the Census and lived with his parents James (b1830) and Elizabeth (b1823?) at her grandfather's house James Wilkinson, a retired cordwainer (b1765 at Hebden, Yorkshire).
- He married Margaret Boothman (1851-1931) of Twiston at The Weslyan Chapel, Clitheroe in 1878. He died 26 April 1934.
- Census 1851: Born at Downham 15 February 1851, only child
- Census 1861: Lived at 25 Lower ..Hall, Downham with children Margaret Ann (b1853), Henry (b1856) and Elizabeth (b1859)
- Census 1871: no change in circumstances from 1861
- Census 1881: John moved to Hancocks, West Bradford, Yorkshire with his wife Margaret and had 2 children James Henry(b1879) and Elizabeth Ann (b1880). He was a farmer of 140 acres employing one man.
- Census 1891: He now moved to Stansfield House farm at Nappa. Further children were Arthur John (b1881 West Bradford), May (b1884 Nappa), Fred (b1886 Nappa) and Lois (b1888 Nappa).
- Census 1901: Moved to Whins Farm, Pendleton (Sabden), Clitheroe. John farmed. The sons all worked at the Calico Printers; Elizabeth did not work and May was a cotton weaver.
- Census 1911: Lived at 12 Thorn Street, Sabden with Margaret & worked as a joiner. Also their children, James Henry (age 32) Engine Tenter Stationary, Twiston Lancs; Arthur John (28) Mechanic Calico Print Works, West Bradford; Fred (24), Labourer Calico Print Works and Lois (22) a Cotton Weaver. Jill & I went to her funeral. She kept many stuffed birds in domed glass cases in the very dark front room.
James (b1829)
- James was born 23 August 1829 at Barley to parents Henry (12 Dec 1802 to 28 Feb 1883) and Alice Burton (b1803)
- He married Elizabeth Hartley (1830 to 7 Feb 1903). Not yet known when they married.
- They had 4 children: John (b1851), Margaret Ann (b 23 Dec1852), Henry (b11 Oct 1855) and Elizabeth (b6 Dec 1858).
- Census 1851: Married, lived at Downham at James Wilkinson's age 86, grandfather to Elizabeth, head of household retired cordwainer born Hebden (Bridge), Yorkshire
- Census 1861: lived at 25 Lower Downham Hall with Elizabeth and children John (age 10), Margaret Ann (8), Henry (5) and Elizabeth (2).
- Census 1871: Lived at 20 Downham, Downham as cotton weaver age 41 with Elizabeth age 41 and children John (20) Cotton Weaver, Margaret (18) Cotton Weaver, Henry (15) Railway Telegraph Clerk, Elizabeth (12) Scholar.
- Census 1881:
- Census 1891: lived 106 Downham Road, Chatburn with Elizabeth : occupation farmer

Henry (b1802)
- Henry was born 12 December 1802 and died 28 February 1883. His parents were Henry Webster Berry (b1768) and Susannah Parkinson (b1779). They did not marry and her children took her surname: Parkinson.
- He married Alice Burton (b1803).
- They had 8 children: Ishmael (b1825), Susannah (b1828), James (b1829), Elizabeth (b1832), William (b1836), George (b1839), Jane (b1842) and John (b1845).
- His only brother William Parkinson (Berry) b5 Feb 1800, married Charlotte Rose (b1801) in Colne 1827. Their son, Samuel Rose Parkinson (1831 to 1919) had a very eventful life, travelled the world, fought the Indians, became a Mormon, was imprisioned for polygomy. There is much written about him, for example this sketch, and his own account to 1873, another and a biography.

Susannah (b1779)
- Susannah's parents were John (1741-1799) and Betty Kay(1743-1814), married 1766
- Susannah Parkinson and Henry Webster Berry did not marry so the children took their mother's name
- She was born 19 Dec 1779 in Pendle Forest,Lancashire, Christened 19 Dec 1779 in Burnley and died 18 Nov 1815.
- Susannah and Henry had 2 childrten: William and Henry
John (b1741)
- John was born in Briercliffe, near Burnley 1741 and died at Pendle Forest area 28 July 1799.
- John and Betty Kay (1743 to 1814) were married 25 September 1766 at the Parish Church, Burnley
- They had 7 children: Betty (b1767), Agnes (b1768), Ellen (b1770), Sarah (b1773), John (b1775), Susannah (1779 to 1815) and Jane (b1783)
